BIRT iHub F-Type is a free, enterprise-grade deployment server developed by Actuate (later acquired by OpenText) that allows you to schedule, share, and seamlessly integrate interactive BIRT reports and dashboards into web applications.
Note: Actuate originally released this product as a free tier of their commercial iHub platform. While legacy files are still accessible, official live registration sites may redirect to OpenText’s modern enterprise analytics suites. Step 1: Download the Installation Package
Choose your Platform: BIRT iHub F-Type supports Windows, Linux, and VMware virtual images.
Locate the Installer: Download the legacy installation media securely via community repositories such as the SourceForge BIRT iHub F-Type Project Page. Download File:
For Windows: Download ActuateBIRTiHubFTypeforWindows.exe (~604 MB). For Linux: Download ActuateBIRTiHubFTypeforLinux.gz.
Obtain an Activation Code: During its initial release, running the software required a free activation code sent via email sign-up. If using a legacy copy, ensure you have your serial code handy or follow the setup wizard’s prompts for evaluation mode. Step 2: Install on Windows
Launch Installer: Double-click the downloaded executable file (ActuateBIRTiHubFType.exe).
Follow Wizard: Click Next on the initial Welcome screen and read through the license agreement.
Accept Terms: Check the box to accept the licensing terms and proceed.
Set Destination Path: Choose the target folder on your hard drive. The system defaults to:C:\Actuate\BIRTiHub
Complete Setup: Click Install and wait for the files to extract. Step 3: Complete Post-Installation Setup
Once installation wraps up, the iHub environment spins up several background engine components automatically:
ihubservletcontainer: An integrated Apache Tomcat engine acting as the web front end.
ihubd & ihubc: Core backend daemon processes managing internal system databases and job tasks. To access your new server deployment: Open a local web browser.
Navigate to the default administration console URL: http://localhost:8700 or http://localhost:8000 (depending on default ports configured during setup).
Log in to the System Console to activate your license code and configure default report repositories. Step 4: Hook Up the Report Designer (Optional) Introducing BIRT iHub F-Type – DZone
